UPDATE ON THE AIR DISCOUNT SCHEME
Since its introduction in May 2006, the Air Discount Scheme has proved popular with residents of eligible areas of the Highlands and Islands.
The Scheme has notification ‘approval’ from the European Commission until 31 March 2011. Before the Scottish Ministers decide if the Commission should be approached regarding an extension, they need to see analysis of how the Scheme has performed since 2006 against its social inclusion objective. And in the current extremely challenging financial environment, Ministers also need to consider whether such Government initiatives are providing value for money and delivering benefits for those who really need them.
Scottish Government officials are currently working on this analysis and will present it to Ministers with their recommendations in due course. As part of this analysis, some Scheme members and non-members have been asked for their views on the Scheme. If you wish to pass on any comments about the Scheme, please direct these to a member of the ADS Team.
We would expect to be in a position to make an announcement on the Scheme in early 2011 and Scheme members will be kept fully updated on developments.
